.....[PHOTO #2]Sadly, we lost a long-time member of our foosball friends here in North Alabama. David Burnett passed away this September 16th, 2025. Into his mid 60's of age, David has been a long-time Alabama Foosball enthusiast and dear friend to so many of us foosball players. David grew up and participated his childhood school life in small town Eva, Alabama and he would often speak of, and tell stories, about his experience learning how to play foosball at the popular place of that time called "Drake's Skateland and Amusement Center" located in Cullman County but between Eva and the Fairview communities.
It wasn't until probably the very earliest of the 1980's when I actually met David Burnett for the first time and it was while playing foosball at a local skate center located just north of the City of Cullman, Alabama and it was the place where a lot of foosball playing took place in those days. I only played against him on a dozen or so occasions before he apparently moved away and into his eventual residing area of Decatur, Alabama. But, it was a memorable experience, David was a very skilled player using, what we referred to in those days, a "toe-shot" series of scoring techniques on the popular old glass-top Challenger & Dynamo foosball tables of those days.
I eventually ran across David Burnett again near mid 1991. I had talked the owners of a popular "Cheers Nite Club of Decatur,AL" into allowing me to replace a run-down old glass-top foosball table with a couple of my new Tornado foosball tables along with the promise that I could most likely draw quite a few people to the business for some foosball activity that I wanted to create. This was early 1990 and, sure enough, with the help of the Cullman players coming with me to Decatur on Saturday nights I began coordinating foosball tournaments for a steadily growing crowd of players. There was another avid foosball player that I had run across from time-to-time in Decatur of which was Garet Peterson. Garet was actually a regular at the "Cheers" location but I don't remember him ever taking part in the foosball activity that I had going at that time. Eventually, a year or so later, Garet brought a couple of his foosball friends with him to a tournament that I was coordinating in Cullman,AL on June 29th of 1991. Garet Peterson, David Burnett, and Rob Fowler of Hartselle,AL., showed up visiting and then participated my 1991 $400 Cullman "Bad Boy" foosball tournament. Garet and David became regular participants of my many "Alabama Foosball Program" tournament events thereafter.
David Burnett will be missed tremendously by many of us foosball players as will, no doubt, by his loving family. On behalf of mine and our Alabama Foosball ~Group~ , I wish to extend deepest of condolences to all family and friends of David Burnett, may he rest in peace.
